Ortel Summer Carnival Rotterdam.
The 2010 edition of Rotterdam Summer Carnival shall be celebrated at Rotterdam City Centre from 30 till 31st of July. The ingenious event that once was invented by a bunch of party people that were overly fond of the Antillean islands and her celebrating traditions, and as consequence decided to make a replicate of this celebration in the heart of Holland.
As in customary tradition every ultimate Saturday of July a great amount of visitors come to Rotterdam to party ’hardy’. The vast majority of those that come to celebrate the event are those from the Antillean communities in Holland.
Everybody is welcome to visit on Saturday and join in the celebration. Dancers dressed in colourful costumes, big parading bands and numerous varieties of tasty Caribbean snacks to indulge in during the parade, the Ortel Summer Carnival Rotterdam makes a nice alternative for going out for young and old. The parade kicks off at 1pm at Boompjes located at the lower end of the “Swam bridge (Erasmus) and will travel a route for 2.5 hours.
The main highlights of the Rotterdam Summer Carnival are the Battle of the Drums. A set of brass bands will be leaving from 4 different sites, and they finally meet each other at the Battle at the Bavaria Stage on the Coolsingel. This event, which takes place on Saturday 30th of July at 19:00 hrs, sees over one hundred music artists engage in an enourmous rhythmic battle.
