What about Bangkok, Thailand?

Ever since its inception as the capital of Siam, it was at the centre of European Colonial plans, but due to its strategic position in Indochina, it acted as the buffer-zone and brokered power between the Western forces. Through this, it gained notoriety within the entire world as an independent, dynamic and influential urban center. And within the period of over two hundred years, Bangkok has grown to become the political, cultural and financial centre of Thailand, Indochina and one of Southeast Asia.

Being a direct result of the 1980s and 1990s Asian investment growth, numerous international firms base the company's local head office in Bangkok plus the city has become an absolute regional force in finance and business. Its growing influence on international politics, lifestyle, fashion and entertainment underlines its reputation as an Alpha international city. In '09, it had become the 2nd most costly community in South-East Asia behind Singapore.
The city's wealth of cultural points of interest and attractions in addition to its known entertainment venues has made it synonymous with exoticism. Its historic riches coincides with its fast modernization, resembled in the cityscape and the urban modern society. The Grand Palace, Vimanmek Palace Complex, its hundreds of temples, as well as the city's infamous red-light districts attract 11 million intercontinental guests yearly, trailing just Paris and London.

Bangkok Travel: The population

Bangkok has a population of more or less 6,5 million locals while the greater Bangkok region has a human population of around 12 million. The capital is part of the heavily urbanized triangle of central and eastern Thailand which extends from Nakhon Ratchasima along Bangkok to the heavily Industrialized Eastern Seaboard. Bangkok borders 6 other provinces: Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, Samut Prakan, Samut Sakhon as well as Nakhon Pathom, and all five provinces are joined in the conurbation of the Bangkok Metropolitan Area.
